Teaching: How to ‘Read the Room’ in an Online Course by Beckie Supiano
From the Chronicle of Higher Ed, Beckie Supiano shares readers’ suggestions for collecting nonverbal feedback from students in online courses. Great ideas for thinking about how to “read the room” in an online course.
This is a great article, and I am going to bookmark it. I was wondering how I could possibly “Read the Room” when my students don’t turn their cameras on, but the article’s focus on the chat feature made a lot of sense. In addition to that, I can encourage students to use the various “react” emojis provided by Zoom so that I know not only how they are feeling, but if they are actually physically THERE behind the screen. I also always forget about the “poll” feature on Zoom, so I really should use that more as well.
